The state of Nevada requires passing a knowledge test before new issuing permits to new drivers. Before you take your written knowledge test, you should obviously take time to study the Nevada Driver’s Handbook.
The knowledge test has 50 multiple-choice questions, each with four answer options. In order to pass the test, you must get 40 questions correct. The questions cover road signs, safe driving practices and traffic laws.
The written test to receive a permit is fairly straightforward, but it does address a broad range of topics, from driving laws to road signs and markings. You will also need to understand the concepts behind the safe driving strategies outlined in the Handbook.
Though you should probably read the entire 70+ pages of the handbook, some sections will be more important than other to review. For example Chapter 1 is primarily administrative and not as important to study as the sections on actual traffic laws. The exception to this is that you should understand the rules and restrictions for young drivers in pages 11-12.
It is a good idea to spend most of your study time on Chapter 3-Driving Safely. It contains the details of Nevada traffic laws that re crucial to know. Pay special attention to the road signs and markings on pages 24-29. Other important sections to study before taking the test include the information on turns starting on page 39, and the parking regulations on page 42.
The rest of the test deals with strategies for how to respond in a variety of driving situations. For this you will want to read Chapter 4, which begins on page 45, and covers special driving conditions such as driving in poor weather, night driving and how to handle emergency situations. Also read Chapter 5-Sharing the Road, which gives information on driving around trucks, busses, motorcycles and bicycles.
Finally, you can expect questions on the knowledge test about driving while intoxicated. So study Chapter 9, starting on page 68 and know the laws specific to alcohol and teen drivers.
After studying the Nevada drivers handbook, the best way to prepare for the test is to take a Nevada permit practice test online. This will help you become comfortable with both the format and the content of the test questions. You can practice again and again until you get all the correct answers.
