New York Permit Practice Test
From the 2016 New York driver handbook
Directions: The New York permit test is a significant part of the NY licensing process. Review your New York Driver Handbook thoroughly as the questions on the permit test are based on information in this handbook. You can find the most recent NY Driver’s Manual at your local DMV office or online at the official NY DMV website. You do not need to complete a driver’s education course in order to be eligible for a NY permit, but you are required to complete a driver’s education course or a pre-licensing class before you take the required road test.
Don’t cram the night before your permit test. Get a good night’s rest. On test day, remember to bring with you a completed form MV-44, your social security card, application fee and documents that prove your age and identity. The NY permit test consists of 20 questions, 4 of which will be about road signs. You will need to answer correctly 14 of the 20 questions, and at least 2 of those road signs questions.
Complete the practice tests here. These will give you an accurate impression of how prepared you are for the real test.
